How can Lakes and Pines help?
Lakes & Pines can contract with interested communities to assist them with their application as well as administration of their program. Lakes & Pines has worked in the past with these communities on Small Cities Development Program projects: Hinckley, Henriette, McGregor, Cloquet, Center City, Aitkin, Tamarack, Stacy, Wright, Rutledge, Kathio Township, McGregor Township, Sturgeon Lake, Harris, Garrison Township, Barnum, Cambridge & Carlton County.

Once a project is funded, local, licensed and insured contractors are selected to bid and perform the work, whether on a public facility, a home, rental property or commercial building. Rehabilitation activities (excluding public facilities) often include: repair/replacement of siding, windows, doors, heating systems, plumbing, electrical and roofing. The primary objective of this program is to preserve viable urban communities by providing decent affordable housing and suitable living environments by expanding economic opportunities, principally for persons of low and moderate income. |

The Small Cities Development Program is a competitive grant program that cities & townships (with a population under 50,000) or counties (with a population under 200,000) can apply for through the Minnesota Department of Employment & Economic Development. |

Small Cities Development Program |
|
The Small Cities Development Program is funded through the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development, and activities funded through this program must meet the federal objectives of: benefiting low to moderate income persons, eliminating slum & blight conditions or solving an urgent need (such as health or environmental hazards). Indian tribal governments and larger cities, which can received direct funding from HUD, are ineligible for this program. |
